Description:

1) Original Factory Blueprints for Winchester Lee Straight Pull Rifle. These original drawings are India ink on "vellum" (actually sized linen which is translucent) for Winchester project 55 95 which was the designation for the Lee. There are ten drawings, mostly 16 inches by 22 inches but two extend to 33 inches. Fine with minor corner damage. 2) Assorted Winchester sights - one complete vernier for Model 1876 or Model 1886 rifle, one staff for a Model 1873, 2 calibrated mid-range staffs and one long range vernier staff. One rear sight base, 2 tang screws, a modified leaf rear sight and a rear musket sight. There is also a front globe missing the insert. The complete vernier sight is in working order but showing surface rust. The long range staff has traces of blue and blue turning brown. Mechanically excellent. The two mid range staffs range in good condition. One showing pitting from rust and only faint numbers discernable. Second staff is blue/brown with most number readable. Neither have eyecups. M73 sight has a bright w/eye cup, adjusting easily. Tang sight base, screws, musket sight and front globe all show blue/brown smooth finish. Rear leaf sight was reblued when modified. 3) Early Sharps made two piece magazine with bulbous nose at front and single cartridge guide on each at the rear. No markings. 4) Slightly later Sharps type with bulbous nose, short guide at the rear with two short guides at the front. No markings. 5) Last type Sharps / early Remington with three leg guide at rear and Borchardt patent cartridge retainer for using rifle as a single shot while the magazine is loaded. No markings spring or follower. 6) Early Remington / Krug type with two full length guides and folded one piece construction with saddle lock on spine. Two line patent markings on the left. 7) Very late three groove type. This is a patent model with a Krug follower, a flat front, and three full length guides for a bottle neck cartridge. The 44/47cartridges (2) in the magazine are factory dummies with metal "paper" patches. Very good to excellent with scattered light spotting on the last two. PICTURED Sharps p298. 8) These are all parts from the Winchester Model Shop which was dismantled with the collection was given to The Cody Firearms Museum. Parts include: Unique frame for solid frame version of the Lee Straight Pull rifle. This frame has the same external dimensions as the Winchester Model 1895 rifle presumably to match the "look and feel' of the straight pull action with their lever action line. This version was never produced commercially. There is another, more complete version at Cody. 2) Bolt for same. Note that it is shorter and thicker than the production bolt. 9) Partially machined frame for standard production model. The 1-1/4 inch by 1-7/16 inch by 8-1/8 inch steel billet has basic milling cuts but no fitting or finishing. 10) Bolt for same, further advanced with some internal factory inspectors marks. Note the extension at the rear of the bolt and the modification to the firing pin, which dates this piece to 1901. 11) Trigger guard/magazine box for Model 1895 in same state with internal factory model ("W/M") marks. There are numerous extra holes that seem to indicated a change to the elevating mechanism. 12) Remington-Lee 1879 receiver , serial number 35739, with sear, magazine catch, spring, and pins. Marked but not finished. Why was an unfinished Remington in the Winchester Model Shop? All in the white with scattered rust stains.
