Manufactured circa 1879 to 1899, this was Winchester's first bolt action rifle. Designed by Benjamin Hotchkiss, it was also known as the Model 1879. This rifle features a blade front and adjustable folding leaf rear sight. The left side of the receiver is marked with the legend. The serial number is located behind the factory legend on the left side of the receiver. The rifle is equipped with the safety and magazine cutoff device on the right side of the stock above the trigger guard. The rifle is mounted with a one piece walnut stock with sling swivels and a shotgun iron buttplate.

Good. The metal surfaces have a mottled grayish/brown patina. The barrel has a few small areas of minor spotting. The buttplate has some light oxidation and pitting. The stock has been sanded and remains in good condition with two minor cracks near the wrist and magazine cutoff and overall scattered minor dings and dents. The markings are clear and crisp. The action is fine.
