Casehardened rolling block action that is known as the locking action in that the hammer went to this half cock position when the breechblock was closed. Marked "MODEL 1871" on the left side. Eagle motif over "U.S./SPRINGFIELD 1872" on the right side. Sling loop on the trigger guard. Two line Remington patent markings on this upper tang. Two piece stock with "US" marked steel buttplate and a script "EM" cartouche on the wrist. With a 18 inch long socket bayonet.

Excellent. The barrel, barrel bands and buttplate have been cleaned at one time and are now exhibiting a smooth light brown patina. There is some dark spotting on the barrel. The frame retains approximately 95% of the vivid case color with some fine surface scratches. The reoiled wood is excellent with some dents and some minor to moderate dings and scratches. The markings are clear and crisp. The bayonet is good with a smooth light brown patina and some dark spotting. Mechanically excellent.
