The low arch breech block and receiver tang are casehardened with vivid colors. The rear of the barrel is correctly marked with the "V. P." eagle head "P" proof and inspection marks. The top at the breech is marked "A". The top of the breechblock is marked "US / MODEL/1884". The lock plate is marked with the American Eagle next to "U. S. / SPRINGFIELD". The heel of the buttplate is marked "US". The oil finished walnut stock is marked with the boxed "SWP / 1889" final inspection cartouche on the left wrist. "C. B" is stamped just behind the lower tang and the circled script "P" proofmark is stamped in the grip area. The rifle has a Buffington rear sight included, blade front sight, two piece trigger guard and trigger bar assembly, three click tumbler, serrated trigger, low arch breechblock and smooth buttplate with no trapdoor.

Rating Definition:

Near mint. The rifle appears unissued and retains at least 98% of the blue finish with some minor thinning on the muzzle. The breech block and tang retain almost all of the vivid case colors. The stock is in near mint condition with perfect inspection and proof marks. This is an outstanding example of an unissued Model 1884 Trapdoor rifle.
