The front sight doubles as a bayonet lug and the rear sight is a folding leaf graduated to 900 yards. Bright barrel, remaining parts casehardened. Walnut forearm and stock with a steel forend cap, two barrel bands, steel cleaning rod with serrated and slotted head and steel buttplate marked "U S" on the heel. The left side of the wrist is marked with an oval "ESA" cartouche. Complete with an original "US" marked socket bayonet.

Rating Definition:

Good. The barrel has a brown patina with traces of the faded original bright finish in protected areas. The receiver has a grayish brown patina with some of the original casehardened finish remaining on the left side. The trigger guard, hammer and breech block also have a smooth grayish brown mottled patina. The buttplate has moderate rust and some minor pitting. The stock and forearm are good with the usual minor dents, dings and scratches associated with a rifle of this age. The bayonet is good with a smooth mottled patina and some minor spotting on the socket area. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is very good.
