Description:

This model is one of approximately 100 experimental/ presentation M1911A1 pistol produced by the Remington-Rand Company of Syracuse, NY. These pistols were all produced by the Engineering Department of Remington-Rand and were intended to test or prove out various engineering changes prior to any implementation in the production line and were eventually given away as presentation pieces to employees and dignitaries such as Ordnance Department officers after the war. The engineering changes actually ranged from different configurations of parts, new and improved manufacturing processes and techniques, to different type of protective finishes depending on the environmental conditions they were trying to improve on. A few of these pistols have surfaced over time and it is theorized that no two are alike. The pistol has the two line address, "REMINGTON RAND / SYRACUSE, N.Y. U.S.A." on the left side of the slide and "NO ERRS 41" on the right side of the frame, which appears hand stamped and that would be correct because the numbers were intended as an internal factory control number. There are no other marks, proofs or inspection markings on the pistol. The pistol has the green GI parkerized finish, the barrel is the correct High Standard finished blue and it is fitted with brown checkered Keyes Fibre grips with the ring around the screws, "K" in a star and "13" marked on the insides and the reinforcing ribs. The pistol is equipped with the standard low profile fixed sights and blue magazine marked "L" on the top of the toe. Checkered trigger, thumb safety, magazine release and hammer, and serrated slide stop and arched mainspring housing with lanyard ring on the heel. This exact pistol is pictured on page 90 of Scott Meadows book "U.S. Military Automatic Pistols", volume II.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The pistol retains approximately 97% of the original finish with some light wear on the front left of the slide, some minor high edge wear and thinning on the front strap. The grips are excellent with a small area on the left panel that shows minor chips on the points of the checkering, otherwise the grips are unmarked and the checkering is sharp. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
