Description:

An extremely rare example of a Colt Model 1911A1 pistol as delivered to the Army in 1937. It has all the Model 1911A1 features although the right side of the slide is marked "MODEL OF 1911.U.S.ARMY". The transitional changes included: (1) arched main spring housing, (2) milled clearance on the sides of the receiver behind the trigger, (3) shortened hammer, (4) lengthened grip safety tang and (5) reduced trigger length. The diamonds on the stocks surrounding the screws were eliminated. The pistol features a brush blue finish. This pistol has no external "P" proofs with the right side of the slide marked: "UNITED STATES PROPERTY / No 710169". The right side of the slide has the standard "MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY" markings; the left side has the Colt 1897-1913 patent dates in a two-line block followed by the two-line Hartford address. The Rampant Colt motif is located between the patent dates and the address. The rear of the slide is number 710169 under the firing pin stop. The right side of the barrel marked "COLT 45 AUTO" with a P on the lug and a small "g" on the underside. "G" stamped on top of the frame by the disconnector hole. It is complete with a half tone, flat-base magazine which is the correct pattern for the pistol.

Rating Definition:

Professionally restored overall with 98% blue finish with minor edge and high spot wear with chamber area of the barrel being polished. The grips are in excellent condition showing nice sharp checkering overall. A rare early Model 1911A1 pistol.
