Description:

Rock Island Arsenal manufactured prototype Model 1970 General Officers Pistol with fitted walnut case, spare magazines and cleaning rod. The Model 1970 General Officers Pistol was manufactured by RIA as a replacement for the Colt .32 ACP Model M pistols issued to Army General Officers. Production models of this pistol were type-classified by the Army as the M15 General Officers Pistol. The Model 1970 G.O. Pistol featured a shortened Colt National Match slide and barrel, shortened barrel bushing, recoil spring and plug. The slide was fitted with a high profile fixed rear sight and a ramp front sight. The pistol has an aluminum National Match trigger and checkered grip strap. The barrel is nickel plated and the pistol has a high-polish blue finish. The grips are checkered walnut with a silver RIA medallion inlaid on the right grip. The left side of the slide is engraved: "General Officers Pistol/Model 1970" in two lines. The serial number, "1263397" is located on the right side of the frame behind the recoil stop hole. The right side of the slide and frame have the standard factory and U.S. government markings. The magazines and cleaning rod have a high polish blue finish. The walnut case is inletted for the pistol spare magazines and cleaning rod and is lined with green felt. This pistol is pictured on pages 165 and 166 of "THE COLT GENERAL OFFICERS' PISTOL" by Horace Greeley. The RIA manufactured and issued 1004 M15 General Officer Pistols between 1972 and 1981 and examples are rarely offered for sale. The prototype Model 1970 General Officers Pistols are extremely rare.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus. The pistol retains nearly all of the presentation grade high polish blue finish. The barrel has nearly all of the nickel-plated finish. The checkered walnut stocks are in excellent condition; the only wear is one small dent in the right stock below the RIA medallion. All three magazines retain 98% of the high polish blue finish. The case has several very light scratches on the lid but is in otherwise excellent condition. This is a very rare prototype RIA M1970 General Officers Pistol in nearly new condition.
