Scarce Colt Woodsman Match Target pistol with "U.S. PROPERTY" markings on the left side of the frame and "G.H.D." Ordnance final inspection marks stamped on the right side. Manufactured between July 1943 and March 1944, this pistol is one of an estimated total of 3,962 Colt Woodsman Match Target pistols purchased by the U.S. Military during WWII. The majority of these pistols were acquired by the U.S. Navy. The pistol has the original Colt commercial blue finish with matted sights, and on top of the barrel, frame and slide. The pistol is fitted with brown plastic checkered grips with molded Colt medallions. The pistol has a "Kelly type" front sight and rear sight that is adjustable for windage and elevation. The pistol is fitted with a 10-shot, fully blued magazine marked "COLT WOODSMAN/CAL. 22. L.R./MATCH TARGET MOD." The serial number "MT16528" is located on the front of the grip strap. The top of the barrel is stamped with the Colt Hartford address and patent number in two un-equal lines. The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped with a bulls-eye logo and "MATCH/TARGET". The left side of the frame is marked "THE WOODSMAN/U.S. PROPERTY". The left side of the slide is roll-stamped with the legend "COLT AUTOMATIC/CAL..22 LONG RIFLE" followed by the Rampant Colt trademark. The left side of the trigger guard bow is stamped with an "e" assembler's mark above the Colt "VP/triangle" proofmark. The right side of the frame is stamped with the Ordnance final inspection mark.

Excellent. The pistol has at least 97% of the original blue finish. There is some minor edge wear on both sides of the barrel at the muzzle and on the upper left edge of the barrel. There are some minor scuff marks on the left rear of the slide and the blue finish on the grip strap is thinning slightly. The magazine has light handling wear and retains about 95% of the original blue finish. The bore is bright. Both grips are in excellent condition. This is an excellent example of a scarce WWII U.S. Colt semi-automatic pistol.
