This is an extremely scarce, WWII Model 1911A1 Ithaca presentation pistol with special serial number "I.G.31" engraved on the right side of the frame. This pistol is 1 of 50 pistols that was specially made for presentation to company and Ordnance Dept employees during and after WWII. These were standard production parts that were given this special serial number as well as a high polish deep dulite blue finish. There are no proofs or US Government markings anywhere. The right side of the slide is only marked with "ITHACA GUN CO., INC. / ITHACA. N.Y." The barrel is by the Flannery Bolt company and is marked with a P and F on the left and right side of the lug. The grips are also the correct wartime versions manufactured by the "Keyes-Fibre" company that have a single five pointed star with a "K" inside, and a single mold number on each side, both located on the inside of the grips, along with the correct reinforcing ribs. It has the late production features such as the serrated slide stop, checkered thumb safety, long grip safety, narrow hammer and serrated arched mainspring housing. It is complete with one blued magazine. This exact pistol is shown on page 129 of Scott Meadow's excellent book "U.S. Military Automatic Pistols, Vol II."
