Description:

This model is one of approximately 100 experimental/ presentation M1911A1 pistol produced by Remington-Rand of Syracuse NY. These pistols were all produced by the engineering department of Remington-Rand and were intended to test or prove out various engineering changes prior to any implementation in the production line and were eventually given away as presentation pieces. The engineering changes actually ranged from different configurations of parts, new and improved manufacturing processes and techniques, to different type of protective finishes depending on the environmental conditions they were trying to improve on. A few of these pistols have surfaced over time and it is theorized that no two are alike. This specific pistol is a very early serial number and overall has probably the best mirror bright final polish/blued finish that we have seen. The left side of the slide is marked "REMINGTON-RAND INC. SYRACUSE, N.Y. U.S.A." with no other Government proofs or inspection marks as these were not accepted by the military. The right side of the frame is marked "No. ERRS 5 (number appears to be hand stamped) which would be correct as this was just intended as an internal factory control number. It has the late style serrated mainspring housing, the narrow checkered hammer, checkered thumb safety, checkered slide stop and long grip safety . The grip panels are the late WWII "Keyes-Fibre" pattern with the small ring around the grip screws, reinforcing ribs inside and are marked on the inside with the five pointed star with the letter "K" inside and a single mold number. The barrel is a late war High Standard contract version that is marked with a "HS" and "P" proofs on the side of the lugs. It is complete with a unmarked all blued WWII contract magazine. A similar pistol is pictured on page 89 of Scott Meadows book, U.S. Military Automatic pistols Vol 2.

Rating Definition:

Near mint with 99.9% Mirror bright presentation grade factory blued finish. As noted above this specific pistol has just an exceptionally nice glass like final polish. There are no wavy marks or dips in the metal surfaces, it's just super smooth and it makes the deep blue/black finish just glisten. An attractive example of a desirable presentation U.S. Remington-Rand M1911A1 pistol.
