Description:

This is a very nice example of one of a "Consecutively Number" pair of 1941US Army contract M1911A1 pistols in this lot. Both of these pistols also have the highly desirable block "RS" inspector stamp of Col Robert Sears, the US Ordnance inspector during the 1937-1941 contract period. These prewar contract pistols are very difficult to find in their original blued condition as they saw heavy use during WWII as well as Korea. This pistol has the original numbered and matching slide with the standard Colt two-line patent and address markings on the left side of the slide with the Rampant Colt Horse logo in the middle. The top of the slide is correctly stamped with the "P" proof and the top of the frame by the disconnect or and the left side of the frame below the magazine catch release. The left side of the frame and the top area by the disconnector also both carry the correct "RS" inspector mark, as noted above. The barrel is marked with a single "P" proof on the left side of the lug and "COLT 45 AUTO" directly above that. It has the correct checkered slide stop and thumb safety, checkered main spring housing, wide Colt checkered hammer and short grip safety. This pistol has the original prewar Coltwood grips, without the reinforcing ribs with a single mold number in the middle and the small ring around he grips screws. It is complete with one WWII blued magazine with the single letter "R" on the lip.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall with 75% of the original colt prewar blue finish showing thinning on the front grip strap, the main spring housing, and lower portion of the grip safety as well as the frame extension, sides of the slide, edges and high spots. The grip panels, show light wear across the tops of the diamonds with a couple of flat stops but no cracks or damage. A very nice example of an original unaltered prewar Colt M1911A1

B) Colt 1911A1 Pistol

Description:

This is the second M1911A1 pistol in this lot and has the same description as the "A" lot with the following exception; the magazine that accompanies this lot is a Colt commercial version that is only marked "COLT 45 AUTO" on the floor plate.

Rating Definition:

Near mint overall with 99.9% of it's professionally restored blue finish, with clear markings, and excellent grips. Although this slide serial number matches this frame, it has been restamped, and the serial number style on this slide is different from lot A. mechanically excellent.
