Description:

This is one of 10,000 contract Model 1911's for the British Air Service/Royal Air Force shipped from January 22, 1918 to April 28, 1919 filling two contracts. This pistol is chambered in 455 Eley caliber and bears the following British markings: "R.A.F." followed by the broad arrow / crossed pennant" military proof marks on the left side of the frame in front of the slide hold back lever, "crown / G2 / A" on the left side of the frame above the magazine release, signifying His Majesty's crown / the British Inspector G.W.R. Stedman / America, and the crossed pennant proof above the Rampant Colt on the left rear of the slide. Mr. Stedman inspected all British procured pistols at the Colt factory after April 1, 1918. The left side of the slide has the standard two line, two block marking and the right side is marked "COLT AUTOMATIC / CALIBRE 455". The serial number has been arsenal restamped without the "W" prefix which were on the RAF pistols. The leg of the "W" is visible. The present number is also lower than the starting contract serial number of "W94100". Low profile fixed sights, checkered grips with diamond pattern around the screws, two tone magazine with a lanyard ring on the bottom and marked "CAL. 455 / ELEY" and with a broad arrow. There is a lanyard loop and ring mounted on the heel.

Rating Definition:

Very good as arsenal refurbished/ remarked (see above). The pistol retains approximately 60% of the thinning British Arsenal dull finish with brown patina on the grip straps and a few scattered small areas of minor pitting. The grips are very good with a couple minor bruises and dents, minor handling marks and crisp checkering. The markings, except noted above, are clear. Mechanically excellent.
