Description:

This is an excellent example of a mid-WWI US Army Colt contract M1911 pistol as manufactured in late 1918, that was subsequently rebuilt for WWII. This pistol is accompanied with the original cardboard shipping box with the original DCM paper work glued to the outside of the box. The left side of the slide has the correct two line, two block Colt patent and address markings with the Rampant Colt in between the markings and the right side is marked "MODEL OF 1911.U.S. ARMY". The left side of the frame is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY", next to "A.A." indicating rebuild by Augusta Arsenal along with the "JMG" inspector marking above the magazine release and the right side of the frame is marked with the serial number. It has the serrated slide stop, checkered thumb safety, checkered wide spur hammer, flat main spring housing with the lanyard loop on the bottom and a blue High Standard replacement barrel marked "HS" on the right side of the lug with a single "P" on the left side. It is fitted with a set of later style Keyes-Fibre brown plastic checkered grips, with the reinforced web inside and one blue magazine marked with a single letter "L" on the lip.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall with 99% of an almost flat matte blued finish that looks like an old arsenal dipped blued finish. The grips are in excellent condition and so is the barrel. A real nice example of a post WWI rebuilt pistol with original DCM papers.
