Stevens Vernier New Model Pocket Rifle with firing pin located in the frame, detachable skeleton shoulder stock and two holes in backstrap for attachment of a Vernier tang peep sight. The rifle has a blued, half-round, half-octagon barrel fitted with a two-leaf folding rear sight. The rifle has a nickel-plated brass frame with two-piece walnut grips and nickel-plated shoulder stock. The hammer, trigger and frame screw are casehardened. The left barrel flat is marked: "J.STEVENS A&T. CO./CHICOPEE FALLS. MASS.U.S.A. PAT.SEPT.6.1864". The left side of the barrel is numbered: "14/2" and "25/4045". Approximately 1500 Vernier New Model Pocket Rifles were manufactured between 1884 and 1896.

Fine. The barrel retains at least 85% of the original blue finish with some wear at the muzzle and on the edges of the barrel flats. About 85% of the nickel-plated finish remains on the frame and stock with some scattered flaking. The hammer and trigger have approximately 90% of the original case hardened finish. The walnut grips are in excellent condition with only light handling wear. The barrel markings are clear. The Vernier sight on the backstrap is missing.
