Description:

The Young Repeating Shotgun was invented by Charles "Sparrow" Young, a ranking trap shooter of the era and manufactured from 1902 to 1904 by the Young Repeating Arms Company of Columbus, Ohio in very limited numbers. This repeating shotgun was designed as a two shot repeater specifically as a trap gun. This unique shotgun works by sliding the barrel/forend forward on rails milled inside the frame. A shell carrier sits in the receiver (missing on this gun) and after firing, the barrel is moved forward ejecting the spent shell and forcing the carrier upward, the barrel is slid back and the gun is ready to fire again. The barrel is blue and the receiver and trigger guard are casehardened. The receiver is floral scroll engraved with a pointer on the right side and a setter on the left. The bottom of the receiver is marked "PAT'D JUNE 18, 1901 / 1057 / SEPT. 16, 1902". The barrel has a solid matte rib with a single brass bead sight and marked "THE YOUNG REPEATING ARMS CO COLUMBUS, O". The forearm and round knob pistol grip stock are checkered with a raised comb and red rubber recoil pad. A very desirable, unique trap shotgun that never quite got off the ground due to financial problems.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall. The barrel has a very pleasant smooth plum color. The receiver retains almost all of the original case colors, some beginning to fade, otherwise vivid. The wood is excellent with only a few light handling marks and sharp checkering. A small piece of wood has been added to the butt squaring it off. The engraving and markings are clear. A crude repair has been made to repair the broken trigger plate back to the stock. Mechanically fine.
