Description:

The work of John Montigny, best known for the development of the Mitrailleuse Battery Gun. Derived from the work of Swiss inventor John Samuel Pauley, the breechblock is operated by a lever extending down the upper tang, which is lifted up to bring the block back for loading, with a lever in front of the trigger guard used for cocking/ decocking the hammer. Single brass bead sight on the smooth concave rib, with "Montigny et Fusenot a Bruxelles" in gold script. Scroll engraving is present on the lever and trigger guard finials, with scenes of a boar chased by hounds on the right side of the breech, flying birds in the center, and foxes on the left, along with two landed birds on the lower tang, a young buck on the trigger guard, framed dog head ahead of the trigger guard and birds in flight on the heel of the butt. Checkered straight grip stock, with decorative tip, brass and wood ramrod, sling rings and a flat butt.

Rating Definition:

Good, with a fine Damascus twist pattern on the barrels and silver patina on the other parts. A dent is visible on the right barrel and some dings overall. Stock is good as freshened, with mild pressure dents and slightly oversized butt. Action is very good.
