Description:

The work of John Montigny, best known for the development of the Mitrailleuse Battery Gun. Derived from the work of Swiss inventor John Samuel Pauley, the breechblock is operated by a lever extending down the upper tang, which is lifted up to bring the block back for loading, with a lever in front of the trigger guard used for cocking/ decocking the hammer. Brass blade front and bolt notch rear sight, with the bolt marked "MONTIGNY EN FUSNOT A BRUXELLES". Smooth straight grip stock, with a flat butt, sling swivels, and a 19 inch folding spike bayonet fitted to the underside of the forearm.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with the twist steel pattern of the barrel clearly visible, and a mixed patina on the breech and trigger guard. Stock is good, with scattered pressure dents, small areas of discoloration and a slightly oversized buttplate. The bayonet and action are both very good.
