Description:

This unique three shot repeating flintlock is possibly a product of the Dutch or Germans and most likely built in the early very 18th Century. There are no makers markings. The action consists of three separate 6" octagon chambers, each with it's own iron flashpan and frizzen. Each chamber can be charged with either a 56 caliber ball or loaded as a 20 gauge shotgun. The breech end of each is engraved with floral patterns and they are marked "A", "B" and "C". The rotating breech is operated by pulling back on the forward section of the trigger guard (which is in two pieces), which unlocks the chamber for manual rotating. The muzzle of the barrel is slightly cannon style with and integral bead sight. The lock, left side plate, trigger guard, wrist plate and buttplate are brass with well executed engraving including a coat of arms and scroll on the lock, a partially attired beguiling woman in Amazonian military garb on the wrist plate and a stand flags on the left side plate. The buttplate tang has a stand of flags and floral patterns. Mounted with a simple carved forearm with a horn forend, brass ram rod pipes and original brass tipped ram rod and straight grip stock with pronounced cheekpiece.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The metal surfaces have a smooth brownish gray patina with a minimal amount of flash pitting at the flash points. The brass has an even untouched aged patina. The wood is good overall. The forearm is a little loose (the rear and forward pins are loose). There is a small chip missing around the forward pin, otherwise there are a few overall scattered minor dings and dents. The engraving is crisp. Overall this rifle shows fine workmanship and remains mostly original.
