Description:

Produced between 1864 and 1870. While a number of Moore revolvers are seen with engraving, the level of embellishment on this revolver goes well beyond the norm. Original markings in a rectangular panel on the barrel, which shows 80% coverage fine scroll and leaf etching, which is further enhanced with detail engraving on the raised sections. The brass frame shows the factory scroll and punch dot engraving, with burst and scroll patterns on the recoil shield and butt. D. Wilson's patent markings are visible on the cylinder in a leafy banner, which has scrollwork, floral designs and an array of flags and cannons in the style of the barrel. Grips are smooth two piece bird's head ivory.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, with approximately 70% of the gold washed finish. The barrel has turned a brown patina, with traces of the original gold visible in the protected areas and highlighting the etching and engraving. A small piece is absent from the loading gate. The cylinder shows a few areas of brown patina on the raised areas, and a fine aged brass patina is visible on the exposed areas of the frame, particularly on the backstrap and right side. Grips are very fine, with some age cracking and an attractive color which brings out the fine grain.
