Description:

This Rider Experimental revolver was manufactured circa 1858 and is equipped with a unique trigger guard loading lever. The plunger is housed in the lower frame and is attached to the upper front of the trigger guard. The rear of the trigger guard latches into the frame directly behind the trigger. The trigger guard has to be pushed in from the rear and pulled down (writer found this procedure to be difficult) and the guard is then pivoted downward causing the plunger to operate. The top strap is marked "J. RIDER." and there are no other visible markings. Brass cone front and frame notch rear sights, brass frame and metal parts appear to have been left in the "white". The revolver functions in both single and double action. Fitted with smooth two piece walnut grips. The revolver is accompanied by the original three page patent papers which have been laminated for preservation. Included is a notarized letter stating that the revolver was from the William M. Locke collection and is pictured in Antique Armory's THE WILLIAM M. LOCKE COLLECTION on page 339.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The metal surfaces have a smooth dull gray patina with a few small areas of minor pitting on the barrel and cylinder. The brass has been cleaned some time ago and has again taken on a pleasant mellow aged patina. The grips are fine with a couple of light scratches and light handling marks. The action is fine.
