Description:

This is a rare 40 shot Guycot chain pistol chambered in 6.5mm cartridge similar to the Volcanic known as the Loron cartridge. The frame and grip house a chain which holds 40 chambers for centerfire cartridges The belt is revolved until a chamber (or cup) faces the barrel. At the same time a long firing pin is retracted. An inner barrel is drawn back through the heavy outer barrel until it covers the bullet end of the cartridge. When the long drag on the trigger end, the final pressure releases the needle like firing pin, which drives through a small opening in the base of the cup detonating the cartridge primer. The pistol fires a lead conical bullet which is hollowed out to accommodate the powder. The pistol can be fired as fast as the user can pull the trigger. The top of the frame has a bead sight at the breech and a notch rear sight which is integral to the dust cover, which covers the loading port. It has a folding trigger and sliding safety mounted on the left side of the frame. The only visible marking is the serial number on the butt. This pistol is pictured on the cover of the Gun Report Magazine, June, 2007 and on page 16 and 17, identifying it by serial number. The three page article gives the history of the Guycot Chain Guns and lists 8 Guycot pistols located by serial number, this pistol being one of them. One photograph shows the internal mechanism. At the time of the article, this pistol belonged to the writer, Charles M. Grimes.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The metal surfaces have a gray patina with some scattered pin prick type pitting and spots of discoloration. The grips are very good with most of the original finish, some wear on the lower edges and a few scattered minor dings and dents. Mechanically functions fine. The dust cover on the loading port is secured with a piece of tape and the action is fine. Writer cannot recall the last time we had one of these. Very rare!
