Description:

Produced between 1851 and 1857, this revolver was subsequently period converted to fire the .32 rimfire cartridge by an unknown individual/entity. The revolver has a solid rib 6-shot cylinder that requires it to be turned manually as it did when it was percussion. The frame has been cut to accept the new firing pin and a cylinder latch has been added to the left side. Faintly marked "MASS ARMS CO. / CHICOPEE FALLS" on the top strap over the cylinder, "MAYNARD'S PATENT / SEP. 22. 1845" on the original primer cover, surrounding an eagle with shield. The frame, hammer, lock plate and reverse are scroll engraved, with a silver finish on the brass trigger guard and backstrap. Serial number marked on the front of the frame, with "71" marked on the barrel lug and cylinder pin. Smooth two piece walnut grips.

Rating Definition:

Good. The revolver has a smooth gray patina with some scattered mild pitting. The trigger guard retains most of the original silvered out plating, with a smooth mellow aged patina on the backstrap. The refinished grips are fine with some minor dings and scratches. The engraving is clear. Mechanically works as retracting the hammer, but the cylinder has a strange locking mechanism on left side of frame which requires a tool to release.
