Description:

This revolver falls in the serial number range of the First Model 2nd Type. This model was manufactured without a loading lever and had a small curved lever at the front of the cylinder pin. This particular revolver does not have the small lever, but instead has an iron cylinder pin with a large brass mushroom shaped head. The only marking is the serial number under the grip on the left side of the frame. Both grip panels are stamped with the matching serial number. The cylinder is roll engraved with a lion, shield and eagle motif much like that on the Second Model 1st Type. It has a square juncture of grip to frame. The cylinder has safety notches which were added to the First Model 4th Type. There are six total screws in the frame, four at the left rear, one ahead of the cylinder on the left side and one on the underside of the right side. Small brass cone front sight and frame notch rear sight and fitted with smooth two piece walnut grips.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus. The metal surfaces have a smooth mottled brownish patina with scattered strong traces of original blue finish, strongest on the barrel and recoil shield. The grips are a bit ill-fitting at the frame, the screw is a replacement, otherwise the grips are very good with a few minor dents, dings and scratches. The cylinder scene is clear. The action is excellent. An interesting and unusual, possibly experimental Whitney percussion revolver with a different cylinder pin configuration.
