Description:

According to Gene Smith and Chris Curtis in THE PINFIRE SYSTEM, the inventor of this unique combination pinfire revolver and pepperbox is not known (page 154), but is believed to have originated in Belgium. No specimen of this type yet examined has a maker's name, and this example is no exception. There are no maker markings. This handgun can be used as a standard revolver or, with the barrel removed, as a pepperbox. It has a 6-shot fluted barrel cluster/cylinder with a scroll engraving on the chambers. Functions in double action only and has a ring trigger. The German silver frame features a checkerboard pattern engraving with a floral engraving under the cylinder, on the recoil shields and on the backstrap. Fitted with smooth ivory grips.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel has traces of original blue with the balance a smooth gray patina darker near the breech. The cylinder retains approximately 30% original blue finish in the protected areas with the balance a smooth gray with limited light spotting. The frame retains approximately 95% of the original silver. The grips are excellent with minimal shrinkage from age, fine color and attractive grain. The engraving is clear and crisp.
