Description:

Manufactured by Simeon North of Middletown, Connecticut between 1819 and 1823. The Model 1819 Pistol features a unique, sliding safety bolt located behind the hammer and featured the introduction of the swivel type steel ramrod. The 1822 dated lock plate is marked in front of the hammer with an eagle with a "U" and "S" on either side, "S.NORTH" (limited traces) in a downward arc above the eagle and "MIDLTN CONN." in an upward arc below. The left side of the barrel is marked "JDJ / P / US" perpendicular to the bore at the breech. The barrel has a brass front sight blade and oval rear sight located on the barrel tang. The lock plate is beveled at the front and rounded at the rear. The left stock flat has an illegible cartouche.

Rating Definition:

Good. Overall the pistol has a smooth cleaned bright gray patina with a darker patina on the buttcap. There is minor flash pitting mostly on the barrel, along with some scattered mild pitting. There is extensive pitting present around the touch hole area, which writer believes to be natural (not a weld). There is a hairline crack near the lock plate and side plate, otherwise the stock is very good with some minor dings and scratches. Frizzen spring needs replaced or bent out to engage the frizzen, otherwise action is good.
