Description:

Manufactured by Simeon North of Middletown, Connecticut between 1819 and 1823. The Model 1819 Pistol features a unique, sliding safety bolt located behind the hammer and featured the introduction of the swivel type steel ramrod. The 1822 dated lock plate is marked behind the hammer with an eagle with a "U" and "S" on either side, "S.NORTH" (faint) in a downward arc above the eagle and "MIDLTN CONN." in an upward arc below. The left side of the barrel is marked "JDJ / P / US" perpendicular to the bore at the breech. The barrel has a brass front sight blade and oval rear sight located on the barrel tang. The lock plate is beveled at the front and rounded at the rear. The left stock flat has an illegible cartouche.

Rating Definition:

Fair. Overall the pistol has a smooth gray patina with evidence of being cleaned at one time. There is some extensive pitting around the touch hole area. The varnished stock is poor as it is cracked at the side flats and a few hairline cracks near the lock and side plates, along with some minor dings and scratches and a filled chip on the underside. Hammer is loose in the full cock position, but action does function properly.
