Description:

This Model 1816 flintlock musket was converted to percussion ignition in 1858. The conversion features replacement of the original lock and breech with a Maynard primer lock and percussion bolster manufactured by E. Remington and Sons. Marked "1858 " and "F" on the barrel tang and "REMINGTON'S / ILION, N.Y. / 1858 / U.S." vertically behind the hammer. The left rear of the barrel is marked with a large "US / P / N J". Approximately 2,000 of these muskets were converted for New Jersey. Equipped with the Maynard priming device, bayonet lug on top of the barrel and front sight integral to the front double barrel band. One piece full stock with three barrel bands, trigger guard riveted to the trigger guard plate, iron ramrod with trumpet head and iron buttplate marked "U S" on the tang. Complete with an "US" marked socket bayonet.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The musket has a crisp smooth gray-brown patina with a smooth dark patina on the hammer. Bolster shows some minor flash pitting. The stock is fine with some minor dings and scratches. Mechanically fine. The bayonet is good with a smooth gray patina and some minor pitting.
