Manufactured from 1836 to 1844 with a total production of about 41,000. Marked "eagle head / A. WATERS / MILBURY. MS. / 1841" on the lock plate in front of the hammer followed by "PH". The rear of the barrel is marked "LF / P". There are three visible cartouches on the left stock flat. Blade front sight and dished oval shaped rear sight on the barrel tang. The ramrod is the steel swivel type with a button shaped head. The trigger guard rivet is fastened to the trigger plate. The barrel band has a strap extension which joins the side plate and the backstrap is integral with the buttplate and extends up the back to the tang. The lock plate, hammer and frizzen are casehardened, blue trigger and frizzen spring and all other iron parts are bright. This was the last U.S. martial pistol produced in flintlock.

Rating Definition:

Good. The barrel has a smooth gray patina with even, minor pitting near the muzzle and breech. The hammer and lock plate have a brown-gray patina, with the frizzen spring having a bright gray patina and frizzen a smooth dark patina. The remaining surfaces have a smooth gray patina with traces of faded original blue finish on the upper tang and some minor pitting. The revarnished stock is about good as it is cracked near the side flats and has some scattered minor dings. Mechanically functions fine.
