Description:

This revolver is one of only about 4,000 Colt Model 1860 Army Revolvers manufactured with the full fluted cylinder. These revolvers appear in the first 8,000 serial numbers and have a four-screw frame with recoil shields cut for an attachable shoulder stock. The included factory letter confirms the serial number, caliber, barrel length, and finish, with the type of stocks not listed. The letter states that the revolver was shipped to J.C. Grubb & Company, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 9 July 1861. The revolver is marked with the standard one line New York barrel address, one line cylinder flute patent marking and "COLTS / PATENT" on the left side of the frame. Matching full serial number on the barrel, frame, barrel wedge, arbor pin (cracked), brass trigger guard, backstrap and near face of cylinder. Blade front and hammer notch rear sights, and fitted with one piece smooth walnut grip.

Rating Definition:

Good. Overall the revolver has a smooth gray patina with some scattered minor pitting. The brass retains some strong traces of original silver plating mostly on the trigger guard. The grip is good with some minor dings mostly on the bottom, a minor dent on the left side and some minor scratches. Mechanically fine. A solid representative example of a very desirable Colt Model 1860 fluted Army.
