Description:

This is a nice example of a mid-production prewar 1906 Commercial contract American Eagle Luger. These early Lugers were made expressly for export to the United States to increase overseas sales by the DWM factory. These Lugers feature the excellent fit, finish and blue of the early prewar models. The top of the chamber is marked with the large American Eagle crest, and the front toggle is marked with the DWM logo. Evidently, this pistol was produced early enough that DWM had not started selling these Lugers outside of Germany to any large extent as the barrel extension is unmarked and the front of the frame and underside of the barrel are marked with the full serial number with no commercial proof marks and only "GERMANY" marked under the serial number. The left side of the breechblock and link have the partial serial number of 02 stamped on them as does the take down lever, side plate and trigger. The trigger, take down lever, magazine release button and ejector are all straw colored. It is fitted with a set of checkered walnut grips. It is complete with one WWI military style magazine that has a nickel-plated body with a wooden base that is numbered 1964b.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with approximately 90% plus of the faded original blued finish with wear on the edges and high spots overall with blue loss on both sides of the front sight barrel band, probably from being in a holster, the front of the frame rails, the side plate hump edges of the grip safety. The small parts retain 20% of their original straw color. The grips are in fine condition showing good checkering overall with even honest light wear across the tops of the checkering. Mechanically excellent.
