Description:

This is an excellent example of Wermacht Artillery General officer's dress uniform. The high quality, field gray wool tunic has six, gold, pebble finished buttons and a dark green collar with gold bullion general officer's insignia on a maroon background. The gold and silver wire shoulder boards have a maroon background and a small gold sword mounted on the top. A gold bullion eagle/swastika national insignia on a dark green background is sewn on the right side above the breast pocket. A gold bullion aiguillette is suspended from the right should strap. The uniform has five service medals suspended over the left pocket. The medals are: (1) Iron Cross 2nd Class 1939, (2) War Merit Cross (2nd Class with Swords, 1939), (3) Russian Winter Campaign Medal 1941-1942, (4) Silver Long Service Medal (4 years) and (5) Commemorative Medal of 1 October 1938 ("Entry into Sudetenland"). The jacket has a gray silk lining. The uniform is complete with the original gray wool dress trousers with double purple stripes. The pants have a H.H. Dohmessen tailor's tag. Included is a letter from the original owner that states this uniform was acquired in Norway where it had been abandoned when the German forces in that country surrendered on May 8, 1945. (See lot 3390 for matching visor hat.)

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The uniform shows only very limited wear and is free from insect damage. This is a high quality WWII Wermacht general officer's uniform complete with the original medal's insignia. The uniform does not appear to have been altered in any way since the original owner abandoned it when the German Army in Norway surrendered in 1945. This is an outstanding and historic WWII uniform.
