Harris Holland started as a tobacconist and moved into guns around 1848. Famous for presentation quality guns built for figures as diverse as President Theodore Roosevelt and The Nina of Hyderabad. Both shotguns feature blue barrels, trigger guard and break lever and casehardened frames and locks. Both feature a single brass bead sight on concave rib. The right barrel is marked "HOLLAND & HOLLAND" and the left is marked " 98 NEW BOND STREET LONDON". The breech end of each rib is engraved with a floral leaf pattern. The breech end of the rib on #2 has a gold inlaid "2". Each is chambered 2 3/4", with the right barrel choked cylinder and the left slight choke, with ejectors. The fences have gold inlaid floral and scroll designs. The side locks are engraved with hunting dog and game bird scenes. #1 has a scene of a rabbit with it's leg in rope trap and #2 has two pheasants in a field scene. The side plates have a simple scroll border with gold inlaid highlights as well as marked "HOLLAND & HOLLAND" in a gold inlaid bordered banner. The bottom of the receivers have gold inlaid highlighted scroll with a grotesque face in the center. Each is marked "ROYAL / HAMMERLESS / EJECTOR" directly ahead of he trigger guard. The trigger guard on #1 is engraved with a hunting dog in a field scene and #2 a duck in a marsh scene. The lower tangs have decorative gold wire inlay around the gold inlaid serial number. The break levers are lightly scroll engraved with a gold inlaid "1" and "2" respectively and are marked "PATENT / EJECTOR". Double triggers and automatic tang safety with gold inlaid "SAFE". Each is mounted with Exhibition Grade multi point checkered walnut "Anson" release splinter forearms with gold inlaid highlighted scroll engraved hardware and checkered straight grip stock with tear drop flats and checkered bare butt. Length of pull is 14 3/4". The accompanying Holland & Holland "Weapon History" letter dated October 22, 2008, verifies the serial numbers, gauge, the Royal Exhibition Grade (Hammerless & ejectors), side lock action, double triggers, 30" special rib barrels, game animal engraving, chamber length, chokes, 14 3/4" pull, Exhibition Grade walnut with best finish, Anson front release forearms and weight of 6Lbs, 8.5 oz. The pair are complete in a fitted leather and oak case with brass corner protectors, double straps, leather carrying handle and red velvet lining with Holland & Holland Labels affixed to the inside of the lid.
