Description:

Factory engraved and inscribed Colt New Service Revolver with ivory grips. The Colt factory letter lists the finish as blue and states the revolver was factory engraved with the inscription "Laddie Hellman" on the barrel. The type of stocks fitted to the revolver is not listed. The revolver was shipped to the Phil B. Bekeart Company in San Francisco, California, on October 28, 1925. The revolver has factory "Grade A" engraving with simple, well executed, leaf scrolls on the sides of the barrel, top and sides of the frame, raised portions of the cylinder, backstrap and underside of the trigger guard. The inscription: "Laddie Hellman" is engraved on the forward portion of the left side of the barrel. The ivory grips appear to be factory fitted. The top of the barrel has the second style two-line Hartford address with 1884, 1900 and 1905 patent dates. The model designation and caliber, "NEW SERVICE 45 COLT" are located on the left side of the barrel behind the inscription. The Rampant Colt trademark is on the left side of the frame behind the cylinder latch. The Colt "Triangle/VP" proof mark and "3" assemblers mark are stamped above the trigger guard on the left side of the frame. The serial number is stamped on the inside of the frame cylinder latch recess and on the inside of the crane. Fewer than 100 Colt New Service Revolvers had factory inscriptions and only about 75 were factory engraved.

Rating Definition:

The revolver retains approximately 50% of the faded original factory blue finish. There is scattered light pitting throughout the blue metal finish. The engraving and markings remain crisp and sharp. The earlier production ivory grips are in very fine condition and have a very attractive age patina. There are several very minor, hairline age cracks on the butt and near the grip screw escutcheons. The action functions perfectly.
