Description:

1) This is an excellent WWII era U.S. Marine Attack Squadron 214 (VMA-214) gold bullion patch: a sheep in a circle with the text "THE BLACK SHEEP" (see image). The squadron is best known as the Black Sheep of World War II fame and for one of its commanding officers/aces, Colonel Gregory "Pappy" Boyington, whose memoirs inspired the NBC television show Baa Baa Black Sheep (1976 until 1978), starring Robert Conrad as the famed WWII ace. Based at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Arizona, the squadron is still active flying AV-8B Harriers. The patch has a felt back and four brass pins attached to the back. 2) This is an excellent WWII Merril's Marauders bullion patch (see image). Officially named the 5307th Composite Unit, Merrill's Marauders was a U.S. long range penetration special forces unit in the South-East Asian Theatre of WW II and is famed for its deep movements behind Japanese rear defenses and thrusts towards superior forces. Has a paper backing. Included is a Zeppelin in Chicago 1933 pin with "C.T.D. GES. GESCH" struck on the back.

Rating Definition:

Both patches are very fine with slight edge fraying. There is some material loss to the backing on 2 but patch remains solid.
