Description:

This is an excellent example of a late WWII M1 Presentation carbine as manufactured by the Inland company, probably in mid 1944. The Carbine has had the metal parts completely hand polished and blued with select parts, having been nickel plated in a presentation grade appearance and fitted with a deluxe presentation type walnut hand guard and stock. The area directly in front of the rear sight is marked 'AF' which has been noted on some weapons as a property marked on other Air Force small arms possibly indicating that the work was performed by the Air Force with the intent to use this carbine as a presentation piece to a high match shooter or other high Air Force official. The carbine has all the late features, with the standard markings on the front receiver ring with the serial number, (5,133,587) stamped under the adjustable rear sight. During the refinishing process, the rough wartime turning marks on the barrel were removed or polished out and so were the barrel markings now leaving a nice smooth blued finish. It has all the late features such as the type three barrel band, adjustable rear sight and M2 style magazine catch. It is fitted with a set of deluxe/select presentation grade walnut stock and handguard. The handguard is a late four hole pattern and the stock is also a late war oval cut, low wood version with a crossed-cannon and boxed NPM/FJA cartouche on the right side of the butt. As noted both have an excellent fancy figure throughout. This type of walnut is very scarce in any GI production wood and was always reserved for presentation type carbines. The metal surfaces all have a nicely hand polished and blued finish and as noted several select parts (bolt, trigger housing, magazine release, butt plate and safety) have been nickel plated to give a nice contrasting appearance with the all blued finish.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall with 99% of the deluxe presentation grade blued metal and hand rubbed finish on the select burl walnut, stock and handguard. As noted the stock and handguard both have a deluxe, fancy figure through out. This is an excellent example of a deluxe Air Force presentation type M1 carbine.
