Description:

This is a very nice example of a late 1930s production Springfield M1903 rifles that has been equipped with a M7A3 Grenade Launcher and GI issue black rubber recoil pad. During the mid to late 1930s, complete 1903 Springfield service rifle production primarily ended and Springfield continued to make spare and repair parts, spare receivers, and spare barreled receiver into support the field in the event they had to later be assembled into complete rifles to maintain the AAO levels. This also allowed Springfield Armory to be kept in a limited warm manufacturing base, in the event of a National Emergency, like WW2, so completed service rifles are very scarce today. This rifle has the standard receiver markings of "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD / ARMORY / MODEL 1903." over serial number '1477347' and has the barrel markings of 'SA/ Flame and Shell Proof/ 1-38' behind the front sight. It has an early bolt marked "WL7" on top of the bolt handle with a single gas hole. It has the grooved and serrated trigger, blade front sight with a cover and correct military adjustable rear sight graduated from 200-2,700 yards. It has the correct milled components like the barrel bands, trigger guard and floor plate. Currently it is fitted with a straight grip 'S' style stock with two reinforcing bolts, with no cartouches or proofs, the late 1930s low profile hand guard with a checkered milled butt plate with the butt trap. As noted it is currently fitted with a M7A3 grenade launcher intended for the M1 Garand rifle, which is marked on the side, Launcher, Grenade M7A3 and the original GI black rubber recoil boot and a 1918 leather sling.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall with 95% of the late black style parkerized finish with wear on the edges and high spots overall and the side of the front sight base, with thinning finish on the floor plate. The stock is in excellent condition with a nice matching red color on the handguard and stock which shows signs of an old sanding on the sides across the cross bolts. The grenade launcher has 99% of an arsenal reparkerized finish. The boot is in very good to excellent condition with no tears or rips and the sling is dark but soft and pliable.
