Description:

This is an unbelievably rare presentation grade WWII M1 carbine as manufactured by the Standard Products Company in Port Clinton, Ohio. This lot is accompanied by various pieces of documentation and memorabilia, one of which is a picture of Captain Dana Hill, the U.S. Army Ordnance inspector assigned to the Standard Products Company with this specific carbine on his desk at the Port Clinton, Ohio plant. This documentation also includes a "Package and Irregular Hour Pass Out Permit" signed by Mr. Bracken, the plant manager, Port Clinton Div., which lists this carbine by serial number, allowing the carbine to be removed from the plant. A personal business card from D.W. Stapleton, the General Manager of the Standard Products Company, a Christmas party picture of the US Government staff that was stationed at the Standard Products plant, along a wonderful 1945 era, bound Standard Products company overview titled "An Industrial Wartime Achievement" which lists/pictures the company executives, President, Vice-President, General and Engineering staff, plant managers and actual workers on the product lines showing these carbines in various stages of manufacturing, assembly and acceptance. This presentation was a standard production model, which is even RARE than those carbine in a specific manufacturers "presentation serial number block" as this carbine would have been covered under a US Gov't contract, hence the rational for granting the pass from the plant manager to the US Army Ordnance Inspector. The carbine has been given a deluxe high polish blued finish on all the metal parts, and it has been with just a beautiful fancy grade walnut stock and hand guard. Obviously both piece were hand selected because both exhibit full tiger stripping their full length. The front receiver ring has the standard markings of "US CARBINE/CAL .30 M1" and the rear of the receiver is marked "STD.PROD./2028476". It has all the correct Standard Product marked subcontract parts as follows; bolt, IO-1, Operating Slide, a large letter "S" inside, milled trigger guard, "S" on the right side, hammer, "SW" sear, "SW", recoil shield, STANDARD PRODUCTS, flip rear sight marked "S" on the left side, the push button safety with checkering on each end, and the M1 type magazine catch with the heavy serrations on the end marked "W-I". The early high wood stock and early two rivet hand guard and as noted both exhibit a beautiful fancy tiger stripping and both are correctly marked with the "S-HB" manufacturers mark. The pistol grip area and lower butt stock has been reshaped into a nice trim sporter configuration, by the factory workers as it is shown that way in the accompanying pictures on Capt. Hill's desk. This carbine is complete with a second spare fancy walnut stock and hand guard both have also been nicely reshaped through the pistol grip area and an ebony or plastic grip cap and butt plate have been installed, probably again by the factory. Both are correctly marked "S-HB" and both exhibit the same type of fancy trigger stripping over 65% of their length. This carbine also has a special desk display stand, made up of two original Standard Products rear section of butt stocks that have been joined in the middle with a fixed M1 Carbine magazine body upright in the middle which holds the carbine approximate 4 inch off the desk. Again this factory custom desk stand is shown in the picture on the desk of Capt. Hill, verifying it's authenticity. The carbine comes in a fitted special wooden carrying case with numerous small spare parts, (magazine catch, 3-push button safeties, extractor, ejector, firing pin type two barrel band, chamber flag etc.), two spare 20 round blued magazines, nine rounds of dummy ammunition, a cleaning rod and two original Ordnance Field Service Technical Bulletins No 23-7-1manuals on the M1 carbine. One is personally signed by Capt Hill on the cover and the other one is a general Army issue. As noted all the metal surfaces have a high polish blued finish with a hand rubbed oil finish on the stock.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus with 99% plus of the original high polish presentation grade blue finish showing just minor blue wear on the right side rail of the receiver, probably from just hand cycling the action. Both stock and hand guard sets are excellent. The display case is also in excellent condition showing minor pressure dings on the outside with the original leather handle intact. An exceptional presentation grade U.S. M1 carbine with impeccable documentation and unique spare accessories.
