This is an example of an unissued, mint Springfield Armory M1D sniper rifle with M84 Telescopic Sight. This rifle has a gray-green parkerized finish and appears to be one of the M1D rifles manufactured by Springfield Armory near the end of the Korean Conflict. The right side of the barrel chamber is dated "SA 9-52". The rifle has a milled "WRA" trigger guard, a WWII gas cylinder lock, late gas cylinder lock screw, 'Type III' rear sights and late operating rod. The stock, forearm and hand guard are oil-finished walnut. An encircled "P" proof mark is stamped on the inside of the pistol grip. The stock has a russet leather cheek-piece stamped "MRT/01 52" on the right side. The cheek piece is screwed to the stock. The M84 Telescopic Sight has a post and cross hair reticule, sliding sun-shield, rubber eye cup and click adjustable windage and elevation knobs with hinged covers. The data plate on the right side of the telescopic sight is missing. The rifle is fitted with a green cotton M1 Sling. Introduced shortly after the Korean War, the M1D sniper rifle was used in Vietnam by Army and Marine Corps snipers and remained in the Army inventory until after the 1991 Gulf War.

Mint. The rifle is in unissued condition and retains nearly 100% of the Springfield Armory gray-green parkerized finish. The muzzle crown is in perfect condition. The markings on the barrel and the receiver heel are crisp. The M84 Telescopic Sight has clear optic and retains nearly all of the original blue finish. The parkerized scope mount has some very minor edge war. The stock, hand guard and forearm are in near mint condition with crisp proof mark and no significant handling or storage wear. The cheek piece has a bright russet finish with sharp "MRT" mark and date. This is a nearly new example of a Springfield M1D sniper rifle that appears to be one of the unissued M1D Rifles released by the Civilian Marksmanship Program in the mid-1990s.
