Description:

Colt Service Model Ace with Colt factory letter that states that serial number SM2788 was shipped to Springfield Armory on January 10, 1942, as part of a lot of 64 pistols. The pistol has a high polish blue finish with highly figured, checkered, walnut grips and a blued, 'two-tone' magazine. The slide is fitted with the standard Stevens adjustable target rear sight and a fixed ramp front sight. The trigger is milled with a checkered face and the slide stop, safety lock, hammer and main spring housing are checkered. The main spring housing has a lanyard loop. The left side of the frame is stamped with the Ordnance final inspection mark "W.B." in a rectangle. The right side of the frame is stamped with the serial number "SM 2788". The slide is stamped with the serial number "27/88" in two lines behind the firing pin stop. A "G" and an encircled "RA" are stamped on the top of the frame to the right of the disconnector hole. The encircled "RA" is also stamped on the inside of the hammer. The left side of the slide is roll-stamped with the elongated Colt patent dates and address in two lines followed by the Rampant Colt trademark. The right side of the slide is roll-stamped with the distinctive Colt Service Model Ace markings. The magazine floor plate is stamped with the Colt Service Model Ace markings in three lines.

Rating Definition:

The pistol has been professionally restored to near mint. The edges of the slide are slightly rounded from polishing and the "WB" inspection has been re-stamped. The slide legend and serial numbers have been lightly re-engraved subsequent to polishing, prior to refinish. The main spring housing is a M1911A1 component with lanyard loop. The stock appear to be replacements. The bore is bright and the markings on the slide are sharp. This is a very good representative example of a WWII production, Ordnance inspected, blued Service Model Ace restored to near mint.
