Description:

This is an example of an early Colt Model 1911 automatic pistol that has the US Property Markings. This specific pistol falls into the very first serial number block of Model 1911 pistols sold to the U.S. Army in 1913. It's predominantly original with the current slide being the second model that has the later 1913 patent dates. The left side of the slide has the two line-two block markings of "PATENTED APR.20.1897.SEPT.9.1902 / DEC.19.1905.FEB.14.1911.AUG.19.1913" with the second block back "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG.CO. / HARTFORD,CT.U.S.A." with the Rampant Colt in between the markings. The right side of the slide is marked "MODEL OF 1911. U.S. ARMY" and the left side of the frame is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" with the early serial number on the right side. The left side of the frame has the circled WGP proof mark of Maj Walter G. Penfield the US Ordnance Inspector. It has the early WWI style barrel that has the separated "H" and "P" proofs on top of the chamber area. The pistol substantially retains the original parts that are: the early 1911 thin lever thumb safety, the short horn grip safety, the flat main spring housing the lanyard loop on the bottom with the wide spur, checkered hammer and the smooth face trigger. The pistol has the original half-tone, lanyard loop magazine in the pistol. It is fitted with the set of original diamond checkered walnut grips. It has the all brush blued military finish. It is complete with a GI leather holster with the US markings on the front flap, with the back stamped "S&R/J.P.C.", with three spare magazines. Two parkerized GI magazines inside a later green canvas double magazine pouch and one new commercial made two-tone magazine with the lanyard loop on the bottom of the base plate.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 60% of the original blue remaining on the frame with wear on the edges and high spots overall with wear and blue loss on the front and rear grip straps. The slide is refinished with most of the dull blue remaining. The grips are in very good condition showing nice checkering with even honest wear with a few minor chips on both sides. The holster is in good condition with tight stitching and sharp markings with the leather being a little stiff. The extra magazines and magazine pouch are in fine condition.
