Description:

The rifled barrel has an approximately 24 inch long octagonal section with the remaining 4 1/2 inches at the muzzle round. The barrel is fitted with a front blade sight, a two leaf rear sight and a bayonet lug with a spring clip mounted on the right side. With the exception of "20" marked on the iron trigger guard, there are no other visible markings. Consignor notes state that this rifle is a rare Civil War Confederate contract rifle. Mounted on a half length checkered straight grip stock, with shotgun style iron buttplate, replacement ramrod pipes and single barrel wedge. A replacement iron ramrod is included.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel retains approximately half of a military style brown (lacquered over) finish with the balance a smooth gray patina. The action, upper tang, trigger guard and buttplate have been cleaned bright at one time and now have a smooth dull gray patina. Overall there is some scattered minor pitting and spotting. The front ramrod pipe is detached. The stock is very good with a few minor gashes, numerous minor dings and scratches. The checkering is smooth. Mechanically excellent.
