A) Engraved Allen & Thurber Dragoon Sized Percussion Pepperbox

Six shot barrel cluster with barrel flute marked "ALLEN & THURBER WORCESTER". The left side of the bar hammer is marked "ALLEN'S PATENT" and the frame has the standard broad leaf hand engraving. Engraved detachable nipple shield

Rating Definition:

Good. The pepperbox has a smooth gray patina with a darker gray on the barrel cluster. There is some scattered minor pitting. The engraving is weak. The grips are good with some minor dings mostly near the bottoms and a stripped screw. Mechanically fine.

Description:

Produced between 1864 and 1870. Silver blade front and hammer notch rear sights, marked "MOORE'S PAT. FIRE ARMS CO. BROOKLYN, N.Y." on top of the barrel and "D. WILLIAMSON'S PATENT JANUARY 5, 1864". The silver plated brass frame is scroll and punch dot engraved, with wavy border lines under the cylinder and burst patterns on the recoil shield. Smooth bird's head walnut grips.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The cylinder and barrel have a smooth gray patina. The frame retains approximately 40% original silver patina with the exposed brass having a mellow aged patina. The grips are also very good with numerous minor dings and scratches. The engraving is clear and crisp. Mechanically needs work, action does not cycle.
