This lot consists of two identical and consecutively serial numbered Remington Number One Vest Pocket Pistols with an inscribed dagger. This presentation set is reportedly attributed to Buffalo Bill who gave the set to Alice McGowen. Consignor notes that McGowen was one of Buffalo Bill's Wild West stars. (There is no way to document this and we are purely offering this set with no guarantee.) The dagger has a 3 3/4" long blade, silver oval cross guard and a pearl grip. The blade is spuriously marked, "REMINGTON'S / ILION, N.Y." The included German silver sheath is engraved "Presented to Alice McGowen / From Col. W. F. Cody" on one side and "1898" on the other. Both pistols are remarked "REMINGTON ILION, N.Y. PATENT OCT. 1, 1861" on the top barrel flat. Matching serial number on the left side of the frame under the grip and on the barrel. Post front sight, frame notch rear sight and fitted with mother of pearl grips. In a leather covered wooden case lined with maroon felt.

Refinished and remarked. The pistol has a smooth artificial brown patina. The grips are fine with exception of a couple minor pressure dents on right panel and a few scattered light scratches. The custom dagger is very fine with a chip missing on the grip and the blade having numerous fine surface scratches. The sheath has a few mild dents and is taking on a slight brown patina. The engraving is clear. The custom case is fine with some minor wear on the leather contained mostly on the lid. The lining is very fine with some mild wear.

Refinished. The pistol has a smooth artificial brown patina. The grips are excellent with only the slightest handling marks. The grips are fine with the exception of a missing chip on the left panel near the frame and only the slightest handling marks.
