Description:

Only about 100 of these Warner Patent Springfield Belt Model revolvers were made and only a handful with a ramrod and single trigger. It appears that the ram rod assembly has been added to the revolver sometime after it's original manufacture. Never the less, the revolver remains a rare piece. The top strap is marked "SPRINGFIELD ARMS CO." and the right side of the frame is marked "WARNER'S PATENT / JAN 1851". The cylinder is etched with the standard floral vine pattern and the sides of the frame are engraved with a crossed cannons and American flag motifs. The above mentioned patent marking is in banners amid the engraving. The matching serial number is marked on the plate under the grips and stamped into the left grip panel. Brass cone front sight and a screw in the top strap services as the rear sight. Fitted with two piece smooth varnished walnut grips. "206 193" has been painted on the butt with yellow paint.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The metal surfaces, except the ram rod have a smooth crisp gray patina (mottled on the barrel) with strong original blue finish on the top strap. The ramrod has been professionally repaired and retains most of a dull blue finish. As mentioned above it appears the lever was added sometime later. The dove tail cut in the barrel is crudely cut, the latch sits back from the muzzle further than normal the screws attach through the left side rather than the right and the latch and rod base where it attaches to the cylinder pin are shaped differently that other Springfield ram rods, as well as appearing more contemporary in construction. With the exception of 9 notches cut into the right panel, the grips are very good retaining 50% of the original varnish and showing a few scattered minor dents and dings. The markings and engraving remain clear. The action is excellent.
