Description:

Manufactured circa 1850s, with total quantity estimated at approximately 300 to 350. Blade front sight and adjustable notch rear sight (slightly bent) on an octagon barrel marked with the serial number on the underside. It has a removable wood ramrod fitted into the tip of the loading lever locking it into its closed position. The top strap is marked "JAMES WARNER. SPRINGFIELD, MASS." and the cylinder is stamped with the Warner patent marking. The manually revolving cylinder operates by releasing a lever forward of the trigger. Spur type trigger guard and a crescent buttplate with a small receptacle that held the short screw-one extension for the ramrod (currently attached to the ramrod). Mounted on a plain nicely figured walnut straight grip stock.

Rating Definition:

Good as partially refinished. The rifle has a smooth brown-gray patina, with some minor flash pitting and some evidence of cleaning overall. The loading lever has limited traces of original case colors. The rear ramrod channel has been repaired. The refinished stock has a few hairline cracks near both tangs and some scattered minor dings and scratches. Mechanically good.
