Description:

Manufactured circa 1849, with total quantity estimated between 50 and 100. The most obvious external feature distinguishing this grooved cylinder type carbine from the other Warner open frame versions is the long hook type cylinder release latch located ahead of the trigger, passing through the front of the trigger guard. The manually rotating 6-shot grooved cylinder is non-retracting and bears an etched motif faintly visible on the periphery. Equipped with a loading lever and a safety shield. The left side of the frame is marked "WARNER'S / PATENT" and faintly marked "JAMES WARNER / SPRINGFIELD MASS." on the right side. "62" is marked on the loading lever and "0" is marked near one of the two tapped holes on the barrel underside near the breech. Half moon front sight and fixed notch rear sight. Mounted on a smooth straight grip stock with a brass patch box on the left side.

Rating Definition:

Good. Overall the carbine has a smooth dark brown patina, with some mild flash pitting and some scattered minor spotting. The otherwise fair stock is loose, with a chip missing near the frame, a repaired chip near the toe and some minor dings and scratches, along with "84 / 566" period marked on the left side. Mechanically good.
