Description:

The "Root", as it was commonly known was the only solid frame revolver Colt ever made. Colt manufactured the "Root" from 1855 to 1870. This revolver was manufactured in the first year of production (1855) Model 2. The entire revolver is nickel. The top of the barrel is marked "COLT'S PT. / 1855" followed by " ADDRESS COL. COLT / HARTFORD CT U.S.A." with the pointing finger and Maltese crosses. The hammer is mounted on the right side of the frame, spur trigger and smooth varnished walnut grip. Complete with a wooden case with brown velvet lining with compartments, a brass bullet mold, rare original Root screwdriver with a wooden handle, percussion U.M.C. cap tin, brass powder flask with American Eagle, shield and banner and lead bullets, round and conical.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as plated. Approximately 95% of the most likely Hartley & Graham nickel finish remains with scattered overall minor flaking. The grip is excellent with 95% of the varnish remaining and scattered minor dings and dents overall. The bullet mold and flask have a smooth aged patina. The case is fine with one partition missing and scattered minor scratches and dings. A 2 inch minor hairline crack in the lid. Needs minor adjustment, the hammer doesn't hold full cock due to weak trigger return spring. All markings are clear and crisp.
