Manufactured circa 1880, this double rifle features Daniel Fraser & Company barrels chamber for the 400-360 cartridge with a raised ramp front blade sight and three leaf, two folding, one fixed, rear sights on the matte solid rib with dolls head extension. The top of the rib is marked "DANL FRASER & CO / GUN & RIFLE MANUFACTURERS / 4 LEITH ST TERRANCE EDINBURGH". The barrels are blue and the remaining metal is casehardened. The frame, locks, hammers, break lever and forearm hardware are nicely engraved with tight floral scroll engraving and each lock is marked "ALEXR HENRY" in a banner. There is a sling swivel mounted on the bottom of the barrels and a stud on the stock that is floral engraved. The serial number is marked on the lower tang and the barrels are numbered "2969". There are sliding safeties mounted in front of each hammer. Mounted with a fully checkered splinter forearm and pistol grip stock with checkered wrist, engraved iron grip cap with compartment, cheekpiece and solid red recoil pad with black spacer giving the rifle a pull of 14 3/4". Complete in an original pigskin case with brass corner protectors and paper Alexander Henry label affixed to the inside of the lid.

Very fine as refurbished to near new. The barrels retain 98% finish with some thinning on the muzzles and a few minor scratches and handling marks. The frame retains approximately 20% of the vivid case colors, the locks retain strong original case colors in the protected areas, the trigger guard retains most of the vivid case colors and the balance has faded to a smooth gray. The wood is excellent with a few minor dings and dents on the stock and sharp checkering overall. The mechanics are excellent. The case is about fair with moderate wear on the exterior and stains on the lining. One of the outer strap loops is torn. The carrying handle has been removed and a replacement mounted on the hinged side.
