Description:

A representative example of one of the Model 1911A1 Automatic pistols manufactured in 1941 by the Singer Manufacturing Co., under the Ordnance Educational Order W-ORD-396. The pistol has the distinctive high polish, Du-Lite finish. The pistol is fitted with plastic brown checkered stocks. The stocks have no reinforcing rings around the screw holes, interior ribs or mold marks. The pistol has a short, milled trigger, short hammer with wide spur, checkered slide stop, safety lock and main spring housing. The pistol has a High Standard "HS" marked barrel, and a Colt, full blue magazine with pinned brush-blue floor plate. The left side of the slide is marked: "S. MFG. CO./ELIZABETH, N.J.,U.S.A." in two unequal lines. A "P" proof mark is stamped on the top of the slide in front of the rear sight. The left side of the frame is stamped with the "J.K.C." initials of COL. John K. Clement, the Army Ordnance Inspector for the New York Ordnance District, and a "P" proof mark above the magazine release. The right side of the frame is marked: "UNITED STATE PROPERTY/NoS800144" in two lines behind the slide stop hole and "M 1911 A1 U.S.ARMY" in front of it.

Rating Definition:

The pistol has been professionally restored and retains at least 98% of the high polish blue. The slide and frame markings have been restored. The barrel and magazine are replacements. The distinctive Singer grips are original. Experts believe that fewer than 100 pistols of the 500-gun Singer Educational Contract still exist and Singer Model 1911A1 pistols are the most desirable variation of the Model 1911A1 pistol. This pistol is an excellent restoration of a Singer Manufacturing Co., Model 1911A1 that would be a great addition to any advanced U.S. martial arms or Model 1911 collection.
